Purpose and Scope<\/strong><\/p>

The Hamilton\u2013Coleraine Rail Reserve was gazetted in April 2000 for Public Purposes \u2013 Conservation and Recreation <\/strong>under Section 4 of the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978.
The Committee of Management is responsible for ensuring that both purposes are respected. The trail passes through environmentally sensitive grasslands, wetlands, and volcanic plains.<\/p>

This Code of Conduct helps everyone enjoy the trail while protecting its unique environment.<\/p>

General Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>

Please respect everyone\u2019s right to a safe, enjoyable, and environmentally responsible experience:<\/p>

  • Camping<\/strong>:
    • The nearest free camping option is at Wannon Falls Reserve<\/strong> (unpowered sites, toilets, picnic tables, barbecues, pet-friendly.<\/li>
    • Additional camping is available in nearby towns, including Hamilton<\/strong> and Coleraine<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><\/li>
    • Care for Nature<\/strong>:
      • Leave all flora and fauna undisturbed.<\/li>
      • Collection of firewood is not permitted.<\/li>
      • Fires are not allowed anywhere along the Rail Reserve.<\/li><\/ul><\/li>
      • Rubbish<\/strong>: Take all litter home with you.<\/li>
      • Vehicles<\/strong>: Motor vehicles and motorbikes are not permitted on the Rail Reserve (management vehicles only).<\/li>
      • Safety<\/strong>:
        • Carry drinking water, a first aid kit, and a mobile phone (coverage can be patchy along the trail).<\/li>
        • Follow trail wayfinding signs at all times.<\/li>
        • Take care at road crossings and look out for vehicles.<\/li><\/ul><\/li>
        • Stock:<\/strong> Report any stock on the reserve to the Southern Grampians Shire Local Laws Officer<\/strong> on (03) 5573 0444 (including after hours).<\/li>
        • Respecting Neighbours<\/strong>:
          • Stay within the Rail Reserve boundaries.<\/li>
          • Move quietly if stock are nearby.<\/li>
          • Never block gateways \u2013 they may be needed for emergency access.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>

            Dogs<\/strong><\/p>

            • Dogs are welcome <\/strong>on the trail.<\/li>
            • They must be kept on a leash and under control<\/strong> at all times.<\/li>
            • Please clean up after your dog so everyone can enjoy the Reserve.<\/li><\/ul>

              Horses<\/strong><\/p>

              • Horses are not permitted<\/strong> on the Rail Reserve.<\/li><\/ul>
