About Us
The Hamilton Club offers a unique environment for like-minded people to meet and enjoy each other’s company and to participate in Club sponsored and private functions and events.
History
The Hamilton Club was formed in 1875 and met at first in rented rooms at the Commercial Hotel. The aim was to provide relaxation and entertainment for leading townsmen and a place where pastoralists and other gentlemen could stay. According to an 1895 Victorian Tourists’ Guide, it was `frequented by the best of the Western District folks.’ The current building was constructed in 1878 and was built in the Italian style and designed by Messrs. Smith and Johnson.
Membership
The Club welcomes suitable men and women for membership. New members must be proposed by a current member of the Club, and are elected by a ballot of all existing members.
There are various membership categories, including Full Member, Associate Member, Under 40 Member and Members who are geographically distanced from the Club.
While members are mainly from western Victoria, a number of members live interstate or overseas. Originally members were drawn from the pastoral industry and the professions, but now the membership has become more diverse with members from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Benefits of membership include:
- attending events for Club members e.g. Friday lunch, new members nights, wine tastings, Saturday morning speaker events, clay target shooting events, musical events, bridge, billiards, Friday night drinks.
- using the Club facilities for your own functions or meetings
- access to reciprocal clubs in Australian and overseas.
- purchasing from the cellar premium and Club labelled wines selected by the Cellar committee and sourced directly from vineyards.
